There is no better story than seeing your team play awful, lose by a great difference in points, blow leads with bad teams, for months straight and have a turnaround after a few adjustments.
The beginning of this season was just like that. If you are into the Celtics or a basketball spectator, you saw it and you know exactly what I am talking about. You did not expect the Celtics to even make it to the playoffs, I know I did not. And it was not like I gave up on them I was just being realistic at that point (I could never give up on my C's).
As per usual, fans and commentators of the sport were exaggerating which makes complete sense because even I started to just watch games without any expectations. Although, it still hurt nevertheless to see them play so awful game after game. Many people were saying that it was time to break the Jays apart, or Ime needs to be sacked asap because he is not the right fit for the Celtics. You know the same things they say every season when something goes wrong.
The beauty of this season came from the turnaround of the team. The Celtics also made some adjustments like getting Derick White and giving Payton Pritchard (one of my favorite players at the moment) some more time. Getting rid of Enes Freedom might have helped as well. If you know you know. We witnessed Jaylen Brown come back from an injury in beast mode and well Jayson, you guys already know about Jayson. That man is special. Also, someone that has done great that surprised many people this season have been Al Horford. When the Celtics signed him people were laughing and mocking the Celtics for making such a 'bad decision' especially for getting rid of Kemba and Fournier for that matter. The jokes on them (yeah, I am talking about Knicks fans). You saw the Celtics beating teams with huge blowouts and witnessing every player put their part in to make that happen. The season became beautiful. The Celtics were good and fun to watch and everyone knew it (except the people that would always try a way to discredit the Celtics). The Celtics even achieved a 1st seed spot on the table and finished the season second in the eastern conference behind the Miami Heat. So not bad at all for where they even came from at the start of the season. No matter how the playoffs go, this turnaround in itself will always be a memorable one. Like Jim George said, “It’s not how you start that’s important, but how you finish!” Straight like that.
Today the series between the Brooklyn Nets begins and I am so excited. People are full on supporting Brooklyn for the most part and their fans are saying the Celtics have no chance after the previous playoff series both teams had. This time we do not have Thompson, Romeo Langford, Fournier, etc. starting like last year. This year we also have Jaylen Brown with us and if you know, he is having one hell of a season and shutting the hater up. This series will be a great one. I even called out of work because my Celtics > work. I am hopeful that the Celtics can win this series but also will try my best to stay grounded and not get ahead of myself until the very last whistle (how we say in soccer).
Here is to the Celtics' playoff run. Hopefully the Celtics proves everyone wrong.
LET'S GO CELTICS. BLEED GREEN!
