Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.
The legend that no one wanted because he was too skinny, not big enough, definitely not the fastest, oh he also lacked a strong arm. Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round with the 199th overall selection. Do you know what the funny thing is? “Brady has an NFL-record six Super Bowl rings, one for every quarterback drafted ahead of him in 2000.” To add on to that he also has more wins than any QB in NFL history, six times super bowl champ., four times super bowl MVP, most division titles, most playoff wins, two times offensive player of the year, 2009 comeback player of the year, three-time all-pro selection… must I go on?
Have you ever woken up on a Super Bowl Sunday and realize your team is playing in it? ONE OF THE BEST FEELINGS IN THE WORLD. Having your team in a final is a feeling that you have to experience to understand what I am talking about, no matter what the sport is. I can reminisce about our comeback against the Falcons or our interception against Seattle. The list goes on.
Tom Brady gave Patriots nation NINE super bowl appearances and here he is going to his tenth appearance with Tampa Bay. The day I found out about his decision to move to Tampa I cried so much. I did not want to see him play for someone else, ever. He was the Patriots and the Patriots were him. This season (2020) the Patriots got eliminated so obviously having Brady still in the game makes me want to root for him. This is not a team debate but more so a goat debate on why I want him to win. Some say Patriots nation is going through it and yes, it is bittersweet but it kind of feels like we are going to the Super Bowl anyways (in a weird way).
Growing up in Massachusetts, I realized how loved Brady was since the first day of school, I mean for crying out loud the man has been with us for twenty years. I did not pay attention to football when I was younger no one in my family did. We always supported our Pats during the super bowls because we knew they were a big deal here in America especially with the hypes of the legendary halftime shows. As I grew, the interest in football sparked in me and well I got lucky enough to have such a good team with a great coach like Bill and a great QB like Brady. I started watching every game and following along the journey of my Patriots and hoping for the best regardless of the press and all the negative things they had to say about my team and my QB. I am sure you have heard the criticism, ‘Tom is too old’, ‘Tom is washed’, Tom this, Tom that. However, the Brady doubters never learned their lesson and they still do not! Sure, is 43 he is not at his prime anymore but having him in another final speaks for itself. It is like the more people speak down on Brady the more he proves them wrong. However, I digressed. Brady will always be a Patriots legend and our goat. Whenever I watch youtube videos about him I cry my ass off because I wish I could go back and relive these moments once more. My childhood, teenage, adult hero. My fanbase really had the goat on our team for 20 years. My goodness.
Who knew in 20 years it was possible for a player to be so successful and continue to keep going at this age. Who else is going to do that… we shall wait and see.
