Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro

I was so young when I first heard the name, Cristiano Ronaldo. I had no idea about Portuguese football or who was a Portuguese star at the age. With age, that obviously changed. The more I followed this young superstar the more I recognized his greatness and hunger for winning. I Remember the camera focused on him before a match, I would get goosebumps (still do) because of the look he has. Watching Ronaldo gives me a sense of magic, strength, and dedication. I have seen Ronaldo play in every circumstance given and he is one of the biggest opportunists I have ever seen in a game. The man has made history in football that others could not accomplish. This little boy from Funchal, Madeira, Portugal became to be one of the best if not the best of my time. Some may disagree and prefer others but what cannot be denied is how hardworking Cristiano is. How much winning means to him and how he is determined to reach the final goal.

Ronaldo turns 36 today, February 5, 2021. It saddens me because he is getting older but I am grateful for seeing his small games and biggest games and seeing him contribute every single time without any excuses. I witnessed various Champions League wins, and trophies from three different leagues. One of the best days of my life will always be July 10, 2016 when Cristiano won his first international trophy, and Portugal won their first trophy EVER. History was made. I am not Portuguese myself but I was happy for my favorite player, I knew how much it meant to him to make it that far and even though he got injured for that game, help along the process. I guess, it gave me a sense of hope since as an Ecuadorian I have never seen my team win anything and seeing Portugal win something made me believe maybe Ecuador will win a Copa America one day. Anything is possible in football.

Cristiano Ronaldo will always be an inspiration to me. From being the first one in practice and being the last one out. From his healthy routines, and his hard-working drive. He reminds me every day that if you work hard for what you want, you can achieve it. I can only imagine the fear and sadness he felt growing up with an alcoholic father, and having to separate from his family at such a young age to pursue his dreams. Maybe you are not searching to win a Champions League trophy but you are in search of your own dream. It could be anything but keep going. Do not stop. Be an opportunist as much as possible. Play the game and do not stop until you reach the top.

We don’t want to tell our dreams. We want to show them.” – Cristiano Ronaldo
