Sports World RANT

There has been so much going on recently in sports. When everyone thought the Nets would win it all, they got eliminated by the Bucks. Of course, they suffered injuries like all of us, for the most part, did. It is unfortunate for any fan to go through an injury so late in the season, but that is just how this season is summarized.

Stay classy Hungary fans!

Stay classy Hungary fans!

Now in the football world, things have been even more nuts, in my opinion, of course. The group of death of the Euros, Hungary, Portugal, Germany, and France lived up to the name. Hungary and Germany ended up in a tie, and so did France and Portugal, which made Hungary sadly exit so fast in the competition. Portugal's life in the Euros was on the line, but luckily they still made it in. If I am honest, I would have cried so much having to let go of Ronaldo so early in the competition, knowing it would be his last one ever played. I am a huge Ronaldo fan (big surprise), and I have been so impressed with his game in these Euros. Not to mention the fact that he is 36 and still going. It is the same thing with my beloved Luka Modric, who possibly had one of the best goals in the competition thus far, at the age of 35, I should add.

Now when it comes to Copa America, drum roll, please. Things have been quite disastrous for me as an Ecuadorian first fan. With this, well, I have two South American nationalities, one being from Ecuador and the other Peru. I will always support both. However, when they have to play against each other, which they did, I support Ecuador.

Ecuador was the first team I started supporting in all of my life, in all sports. If I am honest, growing up, my life was consumed by football, thanks to my Ecuadorian father. This man taught me about the most incredible legends about our country and how his experience was going to live games. On the other hand, my mother, the Peruvian one in the family, could care less about her country's team, so I never really grew up with Peruvian hype. Have I learned to love Peru, yes, on my terms and later in life. But see, with Ecuador, it was since I could remember. Especially the World Cup in Germany, where they played and did very well. I get asked whether which team I support the most, and honestly, I like to be equal. The only time I won't be equal is obviously when they play against each other. If you have two nationalities in the same league, then you probably understand as well, but if you don't then, I hope you get what I am saying here. And I also wish I stop getting the shocked faces whenever I do cheer on Ecuador against Peru. Also, Peru already had their Copa America trophy, and they always do good. On the other hand, Ecuador goes to the World Cup but does a trash job in Copa America. It might be cool to experience different things for both teams and maybe even dream of both of them going to the world cup one year... crazy thinking, I know.

Since I got that off my chest, my prediction for this Copa America is that Brazil will win it all. They are the better team. Have the whole package. Their leader, Neymar, is strong and doing an excellent job at scoring, which will ultimately win you games. Maybe I will be wrong; who knows.

Also, the federation of Copa America are a bunch of money seekers, especially in times like these. Hosting this competition in a place where kids, teens, people of all ages are dying is just plain out wrong. Something that triggered me was that Venezuela had like 12 players opt out because of COVID, and they still had to play and are playing pretty well. So shout out to them! I wonder if 12 players from Argentina or Brazil opted out, if they would have still had to play or if the tournament would have been canceled; hmm, who knows.

As for, the Euros I would want Portugal to win it again, but it is looking a bit tougher there. We will have to wait and see. I will be riding out for Portugal as usual.

If you made it this far, and as always, thanks for reading my rants! Please follow me on Instagram and Twitter and let me know who you think will win the NBA Finals, Copa America, and the Euros! Take care!
